HOW TO USE TOONZ.

Toonz is a collection of programs that you can scan, clean up, colour, arrange on an x-sheet and render your drawn animation. In order to use Toonz you have to do things in the following order.

SCAN.

CLEANUP.

INK AND PAINT.

X SHEET.

BATCHES.

Open Toonz (Shell).

SCAN.

Open up "Scan". Put first drawing in scanner. File> Levels, (Path: +input\ or +drawings\) type in name of sequence, state how many drawings (eg. From 1 to 30). Close box. Settings>Crop box show set. This will activate the scanner to give a preview of your first drawing. Press X to show all of drawing, Drag magenta border to fit animation. Settings>Crop box ok. Settings>Scan para. This allows you to check resolution, peg bar position, black and white or grey tones. Scanning>Start. After the first scan a dialogue box will come up and allow you to press enter or click OK to do next scan. The Scanlist box will show you how your scanning is progressing. When all drawings are scanned, File>Save as config.

CLEANUP.

Open up "Cleanup". File>level. Find level and double click on it. The level will come up on the clean up list. Processing>Preview. Settings>Tone controls. Adjust and highlight all drawings in Clean up list box. Processing>Start. When finished, Files>Save as Config.

INK AND PAINT.

"Open up "Ink and Paint". Files>Load. Click and highlight a ".tzu" file. Click OK. Up will come your sequence. To open Palette go to main menu, Windows>Palette.To add colours on to you palette, right click on palette and then add colour. To open edit colour box go to main menu, Colour>Edit Colour. Mix colour in edit colour box and click apply. To open Film Strip go to main menu, Windows>Film Strip. Files>Save Plt will save your palette. You must do this or you will never see these colours again. Name it something similar to you scene name. These are .plt files. To paint, left click on colour in palette, go to Tools>Fill and click on the bit you want to fill! To Save go to Files>Save as. Give it a name, click save.

XSHEET.

Open up "Xsheet". Chose and highlight a column in the x-sheet. Levels>create/load. Up comes Level lode/Create box. Click to highlight .tzp level. Click OK. This will put your level in the chosen column. Drag each drawing on the level to correspond with you dope sheet. Camera moves and field sizes can be done in the camera and pegs columns by right clicking on the level and choosing Set/Change. You can preview your work by Windows>Preview settings. Set the amount of drawings eg. 1 to 30. Then Windows>Preview to bring up the preview box. Windows>Camera Stand will bring up your camera view and adjustments can be made here. Windows>Output settings. Choose 720 by 576. Name it; "SR_toonzscene". Choose ".jpeg" (or ".pic") files. Close box. To save Xsheet>Save As, call it "SR_toonzscene" in Save Xsheet box and click Save. To reload your xsheet; Xsheet>Load. Highlight .tzp file.

BATCHES.

Open up "Batches". Tasks>Casm. Find .casm file and click and highlight. Make sure it's the right name, on for the correct amount of frames, the files are ".jpeg" (or".pic") files and being saved in the correct place. Close box. Run>Run background. If all is well a black box with computer gobble de goop will come up, showing your computer files being rendered. Once your files are rendered they have to be copied to the PVR disk and then copied on to a BETA tape. This is done by one of the staff.
